Official Google Blog: “A second spring of cleaning”

CalDAV API will become available for whitelisted developers, and will be shut down for other developers on September 16, 2013. Most developers’ use cases are handled well by Google Calendar API, which we recommend using instead. So just three months ago stopped supporting Google Sync in favor of CalDAV in order to build a seamless sync experience using open protocols, and now it’s restricting the very same open protocol? Make up your mind already, Google, are you being ‘open’ because it’s the right thing to do or ‘open’ when you feel like undermining the competition? Oh, well, as if we don’t know the answer to that one already…
